A true Northwest born dance band, Soul Kata got their start playing numerous clubs and festivals in the region. Their motto is "Exercise your Spirit and get into the Groove." They use the traditional Japanese word Kata (meaning form/exercise) as a reverant nod to the way they want their music to deeply move their listeners.
Born out of the doors of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA - vocalist Katrina Kope, keyboardist Josh Rawlings, bassist Nate Omdal and drummer Adam Kessler started playing local venues together as early as 2001. They have been featured at festivals such as the Bite of Seattle, Taste of Tacoma and sold-out stages such as the Triple Door, Nectar Lounge and the like. Steeped in the tradition of tight improvised dance music, Soul Kata blossoms out of the Neo-Soul & Jazz movement with sounds by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, D'Angelo and more. They have a wide ranging stylistic approach and play as a tight seasoned unit of professional musicians (who each can be seen playing in a multitude of other highly respected groups in the area).
Be prepared to dance and learn why Soul Kata is a hidden NW treasure. Dec. 9th will feature the core members of Soul Kata and special guestl guitarist Danny Godinez and saxophonist Sid Hauser. It's gonna be a night to remember! Spotify BandCamp
